WorkCover Physio Strathfield South: Direct Billed Care for Freight and Trades Workers
- Billed direct to your insurer
- No gap on approved sessions
- Parking on site
Strathfield South sits alongside one of the busiest freight precincts in inner Sydney. If you have been injured doing that work — or any work — your physiotherapy can be billed straight to your insurer, with no payment on the day and no gap fee on approved sessions.
To be clear about where we are: Hopevana treats Strathfield South patients at our Homebush clinic, a short drive north with parking on site. There is no direct train between the two, so most patients from this side of the Hume Highway drive — which is exactly why we do not charge for parking or make you hunt for a spot.
New to the scheme? Our WorkCover physiotherapy Sydney guide explains claims, approvals and Certificates of Capacity from scratch. This page is about being treated locally once your claim is moving.
A Freight Suburb, and the Injuries That Come With It
Strathfield South is small — a few thousand residents — but it wraps around the Enfield Intermodal Logistics Centre, a 60-hectare freight terminal with a dedicated rail link to Port Botany. It handles container storage, washing and upgrades, runs trains up to 900 metres long, and sits on B-double routes feeding the Hume Highway, Roberts Road, and the M4 and M5.
Add the surrounding light industrial estates and warehouse space, and the result is a working population doing physically demanding jobs. The injuries we see reflect that, and they are different from the ones that come out of Strathfield two kilometres north.
Container and warehouse handling
Repeated lifting, twisting under load, and working at awkward heights. Lower back and shoulder injuries dominate, and rotator cuff problems are common where overhead reaching is part of the job.
Truck and B-double drivers
Long periods seated with whole-body vibration, then sudden loading demands — climbing in and out of the cab, tarping, load restraint. Lower back pain and neck stiffness are the usual presentations, and the seated hours make recovery slower if the plan ignores them.
Forklift and plant operators
Sustained rotated postures from reversing and looking over the shoulder, plus vibration exposure. Neck, mid-back and shoulder complaints build gradually and are easy to dismiss until they limit a shift.
Trades and construction
Knee, shoulder and lower back injuries from kneeling, overhead work and repeated lifting, along with acute injuries from slips and falls on site.
Rehabilitation has to be built around the actual demands of the role. Getting a driver back to a full run is a different problem from getting a picker back onto the floor, even where the injury looks the same on paper. We ask what your shift involves, not just where it hurts.
Why Getting Seen Early Matters in This Kind of Work
Physical roles carry a particular risk: the job does not pause while the injury settles. It is common to push through a sore back for weeks because the alternative is lost income or letting the crew down, and the problem quietly becomes harder to treat.
The point of direct billing is to take cost out of that decision entirely. Once your claim is accepted and physiotherapy is approved, you pay nothing for those sessions — so there is no financial reason to wait and see.
How Direct Billing Works
We invoice your insurer for approved sessions rather than charging you and leaving you to claim it back.
- Bring your claim number and insurer — we confirm what is approved before your first session
- You are assessed and treated — including a conversation about your duties and your return-to-work plan
- We invoice the insurer — no payment from you, no gap fee
- We manage ongoing approvals — so treatment does not stall on paperwork
Claim still being assessed? Call 0411 057 420 before you book and we will explain your options, so you are not caught with an unexpected invoice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where exactly would I be treated?
At our Homebush clinic. Hopevana does not have a Strathfield South address, and we would rather say so than have you turn up at the wrong suburb. Homebush is a short drive north with parking on site, which suits most people from this area since there is no direct train line between the two.
What does WorkCover physiotherapy cost me?
Nothing for approved sessions. Once your claim is accepted and your insurer approves physiotherapy, we bill them directly. No payment on the day, no gap fee. If you are nearing the end of what has been approved, we tell you before your next appointment, not after.
I drive for a living. Will physio actually help a back injury that keeps flaring up?
Prolonged seated driving with vibration exposure is a genuine and well-recognised load on the lower back, and a treatment plan that ignores that will keep failing. A useful plan addresses the seated hours themselves — positioning, breaks, what you do at either end of a run — alongside hands-on treatment and strengthening. Bring the details of your typical shift to the first appointment.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed to see a physiotherapist. For WorkCover, what matters is that you have a claim and that your insurer has approved physiotherapy. A Certificate of Capacity from your GP is normally part of the claims process. If you are unsure where yours is up to, call us and we will help you sort it out.
My employer suggested a particular physio. Do I have to use them?
No. Under the NSW scheme you choose your own treating physiotherapist, and you can change provider if you are not satisfied. Let your insurer and case manager know you are moving to Hopevana. If you have notes or reports from a previous provider, bring them along.
What if my injury makes driving to appointments difficult?
Raise it when you call. Depending on your injury, your funding and your circumstances, a home visit may be possible. It is worth asking rather than not booking — appointments that never happen are the most common reason a recovery stalls.
