How Your Sessions Are Funded — and Why You Pay $0
WorkCover physiotherapy in NSW is fully funded by your employer’s insurer while your claim is active. You do not pay anything out of pocket at any point — not for your initial assessment, not for ongoing sessions, and not for any reports or paperwork. Here’s exactly how that works at Hopevana.
Your initial appointment is automatically covered
Once your WorkCover claim has been accepted by your employer’s insurer (icare or a self-insurer), your first physiotherapy assessment is funded automatically. You do not need pre-approval and you do not pay a gap. Bring your claim number and we handle billing directly with the insurer.
Your physiotherapist completes the AHTR
After your initial assessment, your treating physiotherapist at Hopevana completes the Allied Health Treatment Request (AHTR) on your behalf. The AHTR is the formal document that requests funded ongoing sessions from your insurer. It includes your diagnosis, treatment plan, expected number of sessions, and goals — all written by your physiotherapist based on the assessment.
We submit the AHTR directly to your case manager
You do not handle any paperwork. We submit the AHTR directly to your insurance case manager, follow up if there are questions, and notify you the moment it is approved. Most AHTRs are approved within a few business days.
Approved sessions continue at zero cost to you
Once your AHTR is approved, your ongoing physiotherapy sessions continue with no out-of-pocket cost. We bill your insurer directly for every session. If further treatment is needed beyond the initial approved block, we complete a new AHTR at the right time so there is no gap in your care.
What We Treat
Common WorkCover and CTP injuries we treat — tap any item to learn more.
Neck and back injuries are among the most common workplace and motor vehicle accident injuries. Whether you’ve sustained whiplash from a rear-end collision or a lumbar strain from heavy lifting, our physiotherapists use manual therapy, targeted exercises, and progressive rehabilitation to restore movement and reduce pain. Learn more about our back pain treatment approach → Sciatica treatment → Plantar fasciitis → Shoulder bursitis →
Shoulder injuries from falls, overhead work, or impact can significantly limit your ability to work. We treat rotator cuff tears, shoulder dislocations, frozen shoulder, and elbow injuries with hands-on therapy, strength programming, and return-to-work protocols.
Knee and lower limb injuries from slips, trips, and falls at work or road accidents require structured rehabilitation. Our team manages ACL injuries, meniscus tears, fracture recovery, and post-surgical knee rehab with evidence-based treatment plans.
Soft tissue injuries — including muscle tears, contusions, and repetitive strain injuries — are common in physical workplaces. We use fascia therapy, IASTM, and targeted exercise programming to restore tissue health and prevent re-injury.
If your workplace or motor vehicle injury required surgery, post-surgical rehabilitation is critical for a full recovery. We design progressive rehab programs that restore strength, flexibility, and function while keeping you safe throughout the process.
Our return-to-work programs are designed in consultation with your employer, insurer, and treating doctor. We provide functional capacity assessments, graded return-to-work plans, and ongoing monitoring to ensure you return to your duties safely and sustainably.

Functional Capacity Evaluations — On-Site at Both Clinics
A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a standardised assessment that measures what an injured worker can physically do — lifting, carrying, sitting, standing, reaching — and compares it to the demands of their pre-injury job. FCEs are commonly requested by case managers, employers, and treating doctors to inform return-to-work planning, suitable duties decisions, and final case resolution. Hopevana provides FCEs on-site at both our Homebush and Pendle Hill clinics. Most Sydney physiotherapy clinics refer FCEs out — we conduct them in-house, which means faster turnaround for your case manager and one less appointment for the injured worker.
What our FCE includes
- Standardised physical capacity testing across all major task categories
- Material handling assessment (lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling)
- Postural tolerance testing (sitting, standing, walking, kneeling)
- Job-task simulation tailored to the worker’s pre-injury role
- Validity and consistency analysis using objective measures
- Detailed written report with clear, decision-ready recommendations
- Direct delivery of the report to the requesting case manager or doctor
Who requests FCEs
- Insurance case managers planning a return-to-work program
- Employers determining suitable duties or modified work options
- Treating doctors needing objective evidence of work capacity
- Solicitors managing complex or contested workers compensation matters

WorkCover & CTP Physiotherapy — Frequently Asked Questions
Tap any question to read the full answer.
Yes — WorkCover physiotherapy in NSW requires a GP referral. Your GP issues a WorkCover medical certificate that names physiotherapy as part of your treatment plan. Once you have the certificate and your claim is approved, contact Hopevana with your claim number and we handle everything from there. If you’re not sure whether your referral is set up correctly, call us and we’ll check with your case manager on your behalf.
$0. WorkCover physiotherapy at Hopevana is fully funded by your employer’s insurer while your claim is active. You do not pay a gap, you do not pay for the initial assessment, and you do not pay for ongoing sessions. We bill the insurer directly. The only cost to you is your time.
An AHTR is an Allied Health Treatment Request — the formal document that requests funded ongoing physiotherapy sessions from your insurer. You do not fill it out. After your initial assessment, your physiotherapist at Hopevana completes the AHTR based on your diagnosis and treatment needs, then submits it directly to your case manager. Most AHTRs are approved within a few business days.
AHTR rejection is rare when the request is well-documented, which is why we put detailed clinical reasoning into every submission. If a request is queried, we provide additional clinical information directly to the case manager. If a treatment block is genuinely declined, we discuss alternatives with you — including private sessions if you choose to continue, or a revised treatment plan that meets the insurer’s requirements. You will never be left without a clear path forward.
Yes. Some patients have a workplace injury and a separate motor vehicle accident running in parallel. Both schemes are accepted at Hopevana and can run concurrently as long as the injuries and treatment plans are clearly distinct. We bill each insurer separately and keep each claim’s clinical notes separate.
We aim to see WorkCover and CTP patients as soon as possible — usually within a few business days of your call. If your injury is recent and acute, let us know when you contact us and we’ll prioritise your booking. Both clinics have weekday and Saturday availability.
Yes — we provide Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) at both our Homebush and Pendle Hill clinics. Unlike most Sydney physiotherapy clinics that refer FCEs out, we conduct them in-house. This means faster turnaround for case managers, fewer appointments for injured workers, and consistent reporting from the same clinical team that knows your case. FCEs can usually be booked within 5 business days.
Our Homebush clinic primarily serves Inner West Sydney including Strathfield, Lidcombe, Auburn, Concord, Burwood, Rhodes, Newington, and Sydney Olympic Park. Our Pendle Hill clinic primarily serves Western Sydney including Wentworthville, Girraween, Toongabbie, Westmead, Parramatta, Merrylands, Granville, Seven Hills, and Blacktown. WorkCover claims in NSW can be treated by any SIRA-approved provider, so as long as you can travel to one of our clinics, location is not a barrier.
