Mobile Physiotherapy for NDIS Participants: A How-To Guide

NDIS · Home Visit Physiotherapy

If travelling to a clinic is the hardest part of your week, physiotherapy can come to you. Hopevana has been an NDIS-registered provider since 2020 and delivers home-visit physiotherapy across Sydney — which means participants on agency-managed, plan-managed and self-managed plans can all access it.

Who home-visit physio suits

Mobility and transfer difficulty

If getting into a car is the barrier, treating in the home removes it entirely and lets us work on transfers where they actually happen.

Fatigue and pain flare risk

Travel can consume the energy you needed for the session. Starting at home means the energy goes into the therapy.

Environment-specific goals

Steps at your front door, your shower, your bed height. These cannot be properly assessed in a clinic room.

Which part of your plan pays for it

Physiotherapy for NDIS participants is usually funded from Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living, the budget that covers allied health assessment and therapy. Some participants access it through other supports depending on how their plan is written, so it is worth checking the wording of yours or asking your support coordinator.

Fees follow the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits published by the NDIA, which are updated periodically. Provider travel is claimable within the limits set in those arrangements, and we tell you in advance what will be claimed for a visit to your address — no surprises on the invoice.

Getting started

1
Get in touch. You, a family member, a support coordinator or an LAC can make the first contact.
2
Confirm funding and goals. We check which budget applies and what you are working towards.
3
Service agreement. A written agreement setting out what we will deliver, how often and what it costs.
4
First home visit. Assessment in your own environment, then a plan built around your goals.

What happens at the first visit

Expect around an hour. We take a history, assess strength, balance, movement and how you manage the tasks that matter to you, then look at the environment itself — doorways, steps, bathroom, bed and chair heights. You finish with a short program you can actually do in the space you have, and a clear picture of what the next few sessions will work on.

We can also provide written reports for plan reviews, documenting what has changed and what further support is being recommended.

Practical details

A support worker or family member is welcome to be present. We bring what the session needs, so no equipment purchase is required to start. If your goals involve equipment or home modifications, we assess for them and document the recommendation — the funding pathway for those sits separately in your plan.

Not sure whether physiotherapy is in your plan? Call us with your plan in front of you and we will go through the relevant section with you before you commit to anything.

Where we visit

Home visits cover Sydney metropolitan areas. If you would rather attend in person, we also see participants at our Homebush and Pendle Hill clinics. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get NDIS physiotherapy at home if my plan is agency-managed?

Yes. Agency-managed participants can only use NDIS-registered providers, and Hopevana has been registered since 2020, so home visits are available to you.

Which budget does physiotherapy come out of?

Usually Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living, which covers allied health assessment and therapy. Some plans are written differently, so check yours or ask your support coordinator if you are unsure.

Is travel charged on top of the session?

Provider travel is claimable within the limits in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. We confirm what will be claimed for your address before the first visit so it is agreed up front.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No referral is needed for NDIS physiotherapy. What matters is that the support is reasonable and necessary and relates to the goals in your plan.

Can you write a report for my plan review?

Yes. We provide written reports documenting progress against goals and recommendations for continued support, which you or your coordinator can submit for the review.

Who can make the first contact?

You, a family member, a support coordinator, a local area coordinator or another provider. We will confirm funding details with whoever manages your plan before treatment starts.
